Codey Supports Constitutional Amendment to Make Property Tax Relief Real and Lasting

Posted by NJ Senate Dems on June 7, 2007 - 7:46 pm

Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) has thrown his support behind a constitutional amendment dedicating a full penny of the statewide sales tax to long-term annual property tax relief.

The move is designed to prove to voters that property tax relief is not an election year gimmick. Instead, it is a real and meaningful source of relief that will be available to hardworking taxpayers year after year, regardless of budget fluctuations. By dedicating a full penny of the state sales tax, roughly $1.4 billion per year will be set aside for direct property tax relief.

Sen. Codey is working with his counterpart in the Assembly, Speaker Joe Roberts, to get the amendment on this November's ballot as a referendum to be decided upon by you - the voters. Will you be voting for it in November?
